Karnataka: A healthy woman died after receiving an injection to prevent paralysis. This shocking incident took place in a hospital in Halaga village of Karwar taluk of Uttara Kannada district.
The dead woman is Swapna Raikar (32), a chartered accountant from Koppal. Her father Keshav was treated here for paralysis and recovered. Due to pain in their hands and arms, 4 people including Swapna took the advice of the hospital doctor and got an injection to prevent paralysis. 4 people who received the injection at the same time. But Swapna died within minutes of receiving the injection. Swapna’s 3-year-old child is an orphan.
Injections are given in this hospital only for stroke and only Rs 150 is taken for each injection. People come in large numbers from the state and outside the state to take the injection. Although there were many complaints against this hospital in the past, but district health authorities did not take any action.
Although swapna is educated, she has come to get the injection as a precautionary measure, fearing that her father might suffer from a stroke in the future. Relatives of the deceased woman filed a complaint at Chittakula police station in Karwar regarding the incident.
