Farmers use a bear costume to prevent monkeys from damaging their sugarcane crop

Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have come up with an innovative idea to protect their crops from the monkeys. Farmers have come forward to threaten the monkeys which go to the fields in the guise of bears.

Due to the day by day depletion of forest resources and destruction of habitats, monkeys have now turned agricultural lands into sources of food supply. Due to this, the farmers are suffering huge losses.

Farmers of Jahan Nagar village of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh are thus waiting for the sugarcane fields in a bear getup.

“40-45 monkeys are roaming in the area and damaging the crops. We appealed to authorities but no attention was paid. So we (farmers) contributed money and bought this costume for Rs 4,000 to protect our crops” says Gajender Singh, a farmer
