Mangaluru student drowns while filming Instagram reel in Tirupati

A young man from Surathkal, Mangaluru, who had gone as a tourist to a waterfall near Tirupati, jumped into the waterfall and died on Friday. Sumanth Amin (23), a resident of Kulai Honnekatte, died. Primary reports says, who was trying to film an Instagram reel with his friends for fun, allegedly drowned to death in Talakona Falls of Tirupati district on Friday night.

According to reports, Sumanth was pursuing his post graduation in Chennai. He, along with his friends from Tirupati, went on an adventure drive to the picnic spot in the district on Friday evening and enjoyed the waterfall. One of his friends took a video of Sumanth while jumping down from the top of a stone for fun.

After some time, Sumanth went swimming and got stuck between the rocks. When Sumanth was found missing in the waterfalls, his friends searched for him for a while and immediately alerted the Yarravaripalem police about the incident. A team of police personnel along with expert swimmers reached the spot and carried out a rescue operation to trace the identity of the deceased.

However, their attempts to trace Sumanth’s identity were not futile and the rescue operation has been stopped for the time being due to darkness on Friday. Expert swimmers fished out the body on Saturday morning. Sumanth died of suffocation after his head got stuck between the rocks in the waterfalls, the police said.

The deceased was shifted to Peluru Government Hospital for postmortem. A case was registered and further investigations are underway into the incident.

The family was immediately informed about the matter and the died body was brought to the house in Kulai Honnekatte on Sunday morning.
