A devastating accident took place in the province of Manitoba, Canada, resulting in the loss of at least 15 lives. The incident occurred when a semi-trailer truck collided with a small bus carrying a group of primarily elderly individuals. This accident ranks among the deadliest road accidents in recent Canadian history.
Canada -based CBC News reported citing RCMP Manitoba Commanding Officer Assistant Commissioner Rob Hill.
While addressing a press conference, Hill said the 25 people with the majority of them being seniors were travelling in the bus that collided with a semi-trailer truck. The bus was heading from the western Manitoba city of Dauphin, CBC News reported.
Ten other individuals were receiving medical treatment at hospitals. The police confirmed that both drivers survived the crash but did not disclose any information regarding responsibility for the accident.
Initially, media reports the vehicle as a van rather than a bus which was claimed to be operated by Handi-Transit, a transportation service for the elderly and individuals with disabilities.
